Imagine how she must have felt
as her son was crucified
a mother’s love went out to him
as he suffered, and he died
a mother should not have to watch
while her son is put to death
but she waited, tried to comfort him
as he took his final breath.
Imagine how they must have felt
as they stood before the cross
a teacher, friend, companion
his death would be a loss
they’d listened to his teachings
the words he spoke rang true
but how could they continue
when they were such a few?
Imagine how he must have felt
when the thorns did pierce his skin
the agony he must endure
to free mankind from sin
Beaten, bloodied, broken
his body racked with pain
from death he’ll rise in glory
and for eternity he’ll reign
Imagine how they must have felt
the stone was rolled away!
there in the tomb just funeral bands
where once his body lay
Imagine their bewilderment
Imagine their surprise
he was risen, he was standing there
right before their eyes.
Imagine how he now must feel
as he looks on us with pride
as we worship, and remember
that it was for us he died
from his brutal crucifixion
to his resurrection glory
we know that life’s eternal
from this wonderous easter story.
